Newmont Elects Glen A. Barton to Board of Directors

DENVER, July 18 /PRNewswire/ -- The Board of Directors of Newmont Mining Corporation (NYSE: NEM) has elected Glen A. Barton as a director, effective today. The total number of directors is now 12.

Mr. Barton, 61, is chairman and chief executive officer of Caterpillar Inc. of Peoria, Illinois. Caterpillar is the world's largest manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines and industrial gas turbines. He is a member of the board of directors of Inco Limited, and is chairman of the board of trustees of Bradley University.

Mr. Barton holds a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Newmont is North America's largest gold producer, with operations in the United States, Australia, Bolivia, Canada, Indonesia, Mexico, Peru and Uzbekistan.
