I heard him say it myself on a CC. 3 times the performance of the 1 Ghz Classic is the closest word for word I could give you, but I burned it into my head, as I almost couldn't believe he said it..

That would be a 50% IPC increase. If Jerry delivers that is huge.

This URL confirms 2Ghz Hammer or faster. I saw the same info on Sharky's about 2+Ghz release. legionhardware.com

Dear Tench:

Actually it was on a slide of a presentation. It showed a 1 GHz 0.25 micron Classic at 1x and Hammer at 3x performance. I did not save that page but, I remember seeing it.

Tench, Re: I don't recall ever hearing Sanders comparing potential performance of Hammer to a 1 GHz Athlon.

I guess this AMD slide will convince you otherwise:

heise.de

(it's an official AMD slide shown at the last shareholder's meeting, slightly changed with German texts for the c't readers)

<< I don't recall ever hearing Sanders comparing potential performance of Hammer to a 1 GHz Athlon. >>

I don't have a link, I also remember it as being equivilent to 3x the performance of the 1 ghz athlon. However, it could be wishful thinking.

Either way, realistically, what AMD estimated 2 years before the chip comes out, and what it actually does are probably two totally different things.
