Jock, I checked and found that Bank One and CSX had both increased their dividends for at least 10 consecutive years, before they decided to cut them this year. That was a bit of a surprise!

In any case, there are about 300 companies that have increased their dividends for 10+ consecutive years. If the weaklings are weeded out and we have a smaller set of 250 or so, that makes it better, not worse.

Btw, both MO and PEP have reported good earnings growth for this past quarter. I would say that their dividends are not only secure, but will also keep growing steadily.
