Up until 1914 taxation was NOT a legal function of the federal government and many individuals including Senators and Representatives fought against it rightly saying that the government declaring it had such power violated the rights of the people to their property and wealth.

All drugs were legal before the government decided to strip individuals of that right because of the continuing pressure of churches to take away that portion of rights an individual had to partake of any substance so long as it did not violate another individual's rights. They even were able (for a time) to outlaw alcohol. Do you support the reintroduction of Prohibition? Do you support the criminalization of tobacco products?

Hell, it got so bad, Teddy Roosevelt even tried to outlaw Coca-Cola. Some battles the government lost, most of the power they gained at the expense of the individual remained intact.

Gun registration is NOT legal in a society that respects individual rights and privacy which this society most assuredly does not despite all the lip service to that affect.

So in essence, what you think is that the State should have growing power and influence over the individual... and eventually it will have ubiquitous power over the individual and Americans will be as chattel to a federal juggernaut.
