Supply and demand (affected to an extent by marketing and negotiation) are the way a free market operates. Perception of value also enters the picture as well (at times) as fear and greed, which are the underlying economic emotional motivators. It is the employer's task to obtain your services for the least that he can; it is the employees task to obtain a wage commensurate what what he thinks he is worth in the marketplace. "Justice" is not necessarily involved. Meanwhile, in today's society, it is the government's job to steal as much from you and the employer as possible without starting a rebellion... and then giving your former wealth away to whatever the cause of the day is.
