So now it looks like IBM will have a go at dragging us down.

The news item I read suggested its weakness was concentrated in the low end and components, though -- maybe we stand a chance.

For video, Apple might make a lot of sense, IMHO.

I've never owned an Apple machine. I know that their OS's up to now have been Win3.1-style protection-free toys where users can manually allocate memory to applications, and their new mach-os X is still pretty much unproven. I bought an iMac for my niece because she liked the color, and she's happy, but all she does is the occasional one-page homework assignment and AOL instant messenger :-).
