From the Siebel conference call, some of the news that may lead to a August plunge:

Tom Siebel, the company's blunt CEO, spent much of a conference call warning analysts they should not expect a turnaround in the technology industry's fortunes until 2002 at the earliest.

``It's tough and it's going to get tougher. We have an exceptionally weak marketplace,'' Siebel said. ``In our opinion, the expectations for tech companies have been set too high.''
