Lee- what I heard was AG trying to pass the blame. All his rate hikes made no difference-LOL!,, not even the last two (.75) when there were signs of the economy & mkts turning. Granted he needed to slow things but his irrational exuberence is a good portion of the reason the 'soft landing' he spoke of will only exist in HIS mind. Too bad he wants to proclaim himself infallible--- admitting his errors, esp to himself, could go a long way in softening the landing we will see in Q2 of '02. He is so frightened of going into history as the one that killed the greatest bull of all he is going to stomp it into the dust. Instead of shifting blame away historians will question his mental stability after disecting his recent speeches and actions. The last thing he can do is shift blame on any members as although they "vote" they only vote for his decision or may go on record as 'voicing concern'. Sanity lost in his 'ego vs sanity' fight.
