llmarinen - What about multipath? Obviously not helpful in determining position, but that is the advantage of having multiple satellites and an over-determined situation with a hint as to where to look and what to expect. As for the other, non-GPS, techniques, they aren't anywhere near as accurate and they aren't as private and ... . The exact economics of the various techniques is not clear to me, but I would certainly hazard the guess that GPS is no more expensive and probably less expensive - the geometric coordination between basestations for the triangulation is probably a pain in the neck.

But enough on this topic.
