EX-INTCfan: You learn A LOT about a leader when you examine their decisions...

Its also interesting to see how they make their decisions.

IMO, Bush has been willing to seek out a lot of input regarding the very controversial stem cell research. The challenge is to go beyond what the politics and polls tell him. What's a courageous and bold decision that may help the majority of Americans dealing with all sorts of diseases? In fact, stem cell research could revolutionize medical treatment worldwide...yet, it will take time and some serious leadership from wealthy countries like The United States. Here are some links to info. on the amazing potential for stem cell research...

This NIH website summarizes things well...

Summary

<<Given the enormous promise of stem cells to the development of new therapies for the most devastating diseases, it is important to simultaneously pursue all lines of research. Science and scientists need to search for the very best sources of these cells. When they are identified, regardless of their sources, researchers will use them to pursue the development of new cell therapies.

The development of stem cell lines, both pluripotent and multipotent, that may produce many tissues of the human body is an important scientific breakthrough. It is not too unrealistic to say that this research has the potential to revolutionize the practice of medicine and improve the quality and length of life.>>

IMO, President Bush has A WINDOW OF OPPORTUNITY to help provide appropriate Federal Funding for some breakthrough stem cell research. Everyone knows a friend or family member who may benefit.

If this becomes too political and Bush decides to veto any funding then there still could be this type of outcome...

<<Sen. Hatch Says Senate Could Override Any Bush Veto of Stem Cell Funding Legislation

Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), a leading proponent of embryonic stem cell research who also opposes abortion, told ABC’s “This Week” program on Sunday, July 1, that he believes there are nearly enough senators to overturn a presidential veto of stem cell funding legislation.
If President Bush should veto legislation to allow use of federal tax dollars to pay for human embryo experimentation, 60 senators would need to vote to override.>>

Its up to President Bush to lead on this issue...I guess I feel strongly about it...A number of my relatives are doctors and I know a number of folks who could benefit greatly from this revolutionary embryonic stem cell research. I also realize that this type of research must be handled very carefully -- there actually may be an appropriate role for some Federal oversite here.

Just my views.

Best Regards,

Scott
