While this is true, I wonder whether the license agreement presages NOK selling 1X phones? And whether it also means NOK will be buying 1X chips from Spinco.

Might this not be the bigger outcome of the license agreement? >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Patiently awaiting those announcements.

I suppose that minority includes me.

Of course, Nokia is important to Q's future! How can an 800 lb. gorilla that lives in your market space be ignored, especially if a large source of Q's future income will be derived from royalties Nokia will be paying? The natural antipathy towards Nokia prevalent here is derived from the fact that it has successfully pursued its GSM-based course and has used its influence to build a moat against CDMA in Europe. Well, what does anyone expect it to do, push a technology in which it is not well-versed to the detriment of its GSM strength? That's unrealistic.

However, Q has the trump card: Q3G. Nokia has failed miserably in its attempts to prevent Q's CDMA from being the basis of all 3G standards. Hell's bells, there was no reasonable choice.

I presume that the expansion of the license allows Nokia to use 1x chips. But I don't see that it is significantly attacking that market space. Perhaps we'll see it when the US is a good market, which should be soon.

I will believe a chip deal when I see it. It would be limited to 1x anyway. There's no reason TXN can't produce a viable chip; it now has the license and it needs to do so in order to keep NOK as one of its largest customers. I have to assume TXN is putting a lot of effort into it. On the other hand, I guess TXN could focus on the wcdma market, figuring to capture that from NOK.
