Berney-- Clinton had a chance to save the economy from the ravages of AG. He would not take a bump when Gore was in the running. By flushing Al he could have put Rubin in the position. There are a few areas where they differed. Rubin wanted brakes on earlier AG wanted to keep Clinton happy to keep his job. The biggest difference then, as now, is Rubin has credability, especially with WS, where AG lost all he ever had. When the economy began to turn, as even Uncle Al stated at the time, and he added 2 more raises, then waited too long to begin the reverse, he tossed the rep he had into Gores lap--- we can no longer find Gore,,, LOL!
