Also be sure to read the second page, in which Parts 2 and 3 of Jesus' message are discussed ... about how walking the extra mile also put the abuser in an embarrassing situation.

I don't think that the concept undermines the entire Christian message. What I think it shows is that Jesus' human side was in tune with the oppression of the common man by those in power, be they Roman or other Jews.

The best explanation I have heard as to why Jesus answered questions with other questions or with parables is that he had to ... to stay alive. Not unlike Humpty-Dumpty being used as a substitute for those wishing bad things to happen to the King of England.
