I know what I've been paying over the past nine months.
Started going up in September during the campaign. Peaked frighteningly right after Bush took power. That's when Cheney lied and tried to scare us telling us we needed 70 new refineries and 1700 new nuclear and coal plants (or whatever) with hs and his cronies pocketign all the proceeds of such deals.

After Jeffords switched it's been coming down ever since (thank God for Jeffords, America, or we'd REALLY be getting reamed) but not that much. Slowly. Now about $1.90 average a gallon. Here in California I've been told it's because a couple of big oil companies hold a monopoly and collude like hell. The price of cleaner gas (which really makes a great difference to the air quality and you should all buy it) is only 5 cents. UCL owns the patent and it's one of the few oil coimpanies that's a real bargain now. Everyone has to pay them though BIG X if fighting them even though they already lost in Supreme Court, and BIG X has a lot of control in the Oval Office. Chevron however is even more powerful with Bush and Bush Sr. Has gotten tremendous pay-offs from them for being on the board and Condy Rice is also their lone black woman they (even know) and sponsor. They supported Condy for years. Even named a tanker after her. Enron, Williams, Duke and Jim Baker's company are the other big players publicly. But behind the scenes the real "evil" money (because they don't have to report anything to anyone) are the ultra-private and CIA/Pentagon-connected Brown+Root in Houston and Bectel. They helped create Reagan as well. They give untold amounts of secret money and were the architects of the Vietnam War as well as the guys who paid for Howard Hughes to build the deep-sea ocean salvager remember to pick up the Russian sub. They are often used by the CIA but they are just as powerful on their own. Also Fluor is connected and El Paso Gas which was the biggest gouger of the year. Corporate power has become like organized crime power inside this infested White House. But they're nothing new, they've been pulling strings for the right-wing corporate interets for decades. George Schultz, Jim Baker, Dick Cheney, anything but nice men. It was Schultz who started GW in politics and made him the devil's deal. All outside campaign finance view. This is a very deeply corrupt administration which makes Reagan and Bush Sr look moderate. Though RR did give us the S+L debacle so he's no lightweight.
