08:39 ET Dell Computer (DELL) 27.20: -- Update -- Company sees sales for qtr of approx. $7.6 bln (Multex consensus $7.7 bln) and EPS of $0.16, which would be in-line with Wall Street views. DELL says it is somewhat softer industry demand with faster-than-planned progress in reducing operating expenses.

I didn't know about the $700 million writedown. Eegads, even Jeremy Siegel was on CNBC yesterday saying the difference between pro forma and GAAP earnings was becoming a big red warning flag.
