"The next big thing then is to differentiate the prices more to the customers - try to imagine a mail order company, that sells SDRAM memory cheaper to those who know how to handle it, and expensive to those who will probably return it, because it didn't fit into their EDO RAM socket, even though they really tried to make it fit"

Try to imagine charging more for groceries in poorer parts of town, because you know those folks are less mobile, or maybe because you "know" you'll lose more to theft.

Edit: I.e., enforce those stereotypes!

Lars, I agree that there is plenty of optimization to be done in the sales chain of many markets. But the result of such optimization, I hope, will be lower prices or better products, rather than a big sales tax to Microsoft.

It was Warren Buffet who said (paraphrased, I don't remember the exact wording) that the Internet is a wonderful thing for the consumer, but probably a net negative for capitalism.
