1. This began with the observation that I knew a number of emigres who had a difficulty with tolerating dissension, because of concern for social harmony; 2. You brought up turmoil in the past, and even fairly recently; 3. I observed that that may be a reason for fearing that dissension would get out of hand, and also that the impulse to suppress dissent might itself lead to turmoil, and, for example, ethnic and religious homogeneity was pursued. Is that clear enough for you?
