Sun Microsystems (SUNW) 14.44 +0.45: On call, management noted that it expects operating numbers in Q1)2 to be similar to Q4... Though not forecasting revenue range, does expect revenues to be above the pro forma break even rate of $3.7 bln... While not very specific, sounds like a warning as street was expecting SUNW to earn $0.05 on sales of $4.3 bln in Q1.

Commerce One (CMRC) 4.89 +0.40: Reports Q2 loss of $0.31 a share, $0.09 worse than the First Call consensus of ($0.22); revenues rose 61.5% to $101.25 mln vs Multex consensus of $109.8 mln, from a year-ago of $62.70 mln.

Microchip (MCHP) 34.09 +1.85: Reports Q1 earnings of $0.16 a share, in line with the First Call consensus of $0.16; revenues fell 21.9% to $138.89 mln vs. consensus of $136.7 mln; "As indicated in our June 14 business update, we believe that the inventory correction has almost run its course, based on an increase in turns orders and slowing of pushouts and cancellations. While we are confident that our high rate of design-in activity will position us well to return to a pattern of growth, visibility continues to be low." .

Xilinx (XLNX) 40.87 +1.45: Reports Q1 earnings of $0.08 a share, $0.01 better than the First Call consensus of $0.07, vs year-ago earnings of $0.27; revenues fell 29% sequentially to $289.3 mln vs Multex consensus of $275.8 mln.

Flextronics (FLEX) 24.91 +1.76: Reports Q1 earnings of $0.18 a share, $0.01 worse than the First Call consensus of $0.19, vs year-ago earnings of $0.19; revenues were $3.111 bln vs Multex consensus of $3.041 bln.

Gateway (GTW) 14.59 -0.88: Reports a Q2 loss of $0.02 a share, $0.01 worse than consensus, vs yr-ago loss of $0.01; revenues fell 32% to $1.5 bln (Multex consensus $1.93 bln). Company expects to approximately break even on a pre-tax income basis the second half of 2001.

Compuware (CPWR) 13.36 +0.59: Reports Q1 earnings of $0.12 a share, $0.01 better than the First Call consensus of $0.11, vs year-ago earnings of $0.09; revenues fell 13.1% to $446.75 mln (vs $448 mln Multex consensus) from a year-ago of $513.87 mln.

eBay (EBAY) 64.40 -2.14: Company reports pro forma consolidated net income of $0.12 per share, three cents better than consensus; Q2 revs reported at $180.9 mln vs. $164.8 mln; "eBay now believes that consolidated net revenues in the second half of 2001 could be as much as $15-$30 million higher than previously indicated, or as much as $385-$400 million for the remainder of 2001. Pro forma diluted earnings per share over the next two quarters could be as much as $0.01-$0.02 higher than current consensus expectations, or as much as $0.21-$0.22 for the remainder of 2001." .

Nortel Networks (NT) 7.75 +0.17: Reports Q3 loss of $0.48, in line with First Call estimate; revenue from continuing operations was $4.6 bln; company will not provide guidance for Sep qtr due to limited visibility.

Microsoft (MSFT) 72.57 +2.00: -- Update -- The $0.01 EPS was precisely in line with company's July 11 guidance, in which MSFT stated that EPS including non-cash investment charge would be $0.01.

Macromedia (MACR) 16.91 +0.19: Posts Q1 pro forma loss of $0.15 a share, $0.02 better than consensus, vs yr-ago net of $0.33; revenues declined 1.8% to $88.7 mln (consensus )$86 mln). Company expects revenues for Q2 to be flat to down 10% sequentially (consensus for a 4.3% increase); expects a return to profitability this fiscal year.

Microsoft (MSFT) 72.57 +2.00: -- Update -- Though company guided Sep qtr lower, guidance for the coming year is close to estimates: sees FY02 (Jun) revenues of $28.8-29.5 bln vs Multex consensus of $28.8 bln; EPS of $1.91-1.95 vs consensus of $1.95.

Atmel Corp (ATML) 10.02 +0.45: Company reports Q2 results of break even, in line with consensus ests; Q2 revs reported at $367 mln vs. consensus est of $367.2 mln; "based on information available to us today, we believe that our business should bottom out in the third quarter, with a return to growth thereafter."
