If I were in Russia, and having seen what NATO has done in the past 50 years, I would only be concerned with the billions on my border who are governed by folks who may need a war to stay on power. The ABM means little. The HCH is a real threat.

Surely Putin realizes that there is a much better future as an ally and trading partner with Europe than with China. Identifying too strongly with China for short term political gain will be a dead end. Personally, I'd just as soon isolate China. But you know what happens when bullies are ostracized. They build up alot of resentment and then get nasty.
