Tippet re: autoexec.bat? well what system are you using?
if linux it wont work. From Microsoft there are
about 10 possibilities, 5 of which I know autoexec.bat
should give results.
SET PATH=C:\BIN
for instance and C:\bin will be added to the path
whichwill then be c:\windows,c:\windows\command;c:\bin
however maybe you made a mistake like saying

SET PATH C:\BIN
which doesn't work very well.

You can also make a special batch startup for your dos program by using the switches in the PIF file
you access from Right mouse button.
Make a copy of the "MS-DOS PROMPT" icon and you can start
the dos shell with whatever .bat you wish ... c:\autoexec.bat will be executed first, though, I believe,
and this should hold for Win3.1,95,98,ME and also NT4 maybe
win2k is different.

config.nt is the windows nt version of config.sys and autoexec.nt is the counterpart of autoexec.bat.
The dos window that you run from nt is not true dos so whatever your trying to run may not work. If you let me know what your trying to do exactly I may be able to help.

ANYONE:Computer question -- AUTOEXEC.BAT used to be the place to put a startup path for DOS. Help says AUTOEXEC.NT -- but that doesn't work -- also tried CONFIG.NT

if you really want to set a path to c:\dos to use the .exe &.com files (dos commands): you can do this as was desribed using the "path" command, but it won't help you because the versions of the programs in c:\dos do not run anymore on win2000/nt. They only run with "command.com" and win2000 implements the same with cmd.exe. So if you want to have a command line interface under win2000, you can click Start/Run and type "cmd" in the text field. CMD knows most commands that once resided in c:\dos which you can delete (if you don't need qbasic). Programs like the NC for DOS also run within cmd...
