<Aren't you ignoring the fact that some parts of the P4 run at twice the speed? That makes a 1.5 GHz P4 a 750MHz/1.5GHz/3.0GHz CPU.>

It is well known that any system's performance is gated by the slowest component. This is why 3.0GHz ALUs are irrelevant, while 750MHz decoder is very relevant. Also the number of transistors implementing L2/decode stages is an order of magnitude larger than the number of transistors in the ALUs.

>Don't forget that Intel is also hiding the fact that the FSB only runs at 100 MHz. What a scandal!<

I met a kid who purchased a P4. The only negative thing he had to say about it was that it is deceptive for Intel to call the P4 bus a 400 MHz bus while it is really a 100 MHz bus, versus 266 MHz for the Athlon. I couldn't resist pointing out that, if he were going to call the P4 bus a 100 MHz bus, the Athlon bus could only be considered a 133 MHz bus. His response was that even 133 MHz is faster than 100 MHz.
