victor, imho, monopoly infers that others don't have a legitimate chance to compete due to some barrier to entry. i don't see that ebay's business has any great barrier to entry. nobody has really tested it. yahoo made a run, but then upped their fees and lost a lot of customers.

sure, they have HUGE name recognition and that counts for a lot. but, they have to be careful where they tread. napster learned this the hard way.

i totally agree it will take a lot gain significant market share from ebay. i just disagree with you on the difficulty of doing it IF a major player REALLY wanted to do it. i also disagree that ebay has the pricing power of a monopoly. they have to be very CAREFUL how they price their service or else they will risk losing business.
