yes I use that figure, but at 2% of daily volume doesn't seem high to me. When there are over 100% of daily volume then you see some pops on short covering. Trouble is, on a stock less than 4 bucks a share most people can't short. You are seeing specialists or MM's (and off floor traders??) etc as the case may be, because others should not be able to short a stock that sells for under a buck.

NEM had a very high short position, 7+ millions of share several days worth a few weeks ago, I haven't checked it lately...I follow the short stuff but not closely.
