I don't think Reg FD means that you have to spill every piece of info. I think it means that you cannot divulge that info to one party, but not to all. If MSFT had said "hey, Vanguard Funds, we're gonna miss next quarter" but not told anyone else, that's a violation. Not talking about next quarter is NOT a violation. Remember, their PR only said that they were making this quarter's revenue, and said a CC would be held to discuss that and other issues. Did anyone listen to that CC (I did not)? My guess is that next Q wasn't mentioned.

Slimy, perhaps. Violation? Not really. Or at least that's the way I read it.

well, they didn't strictly lie, since they only talked about THIS qu. last week. reg. FD would only be technically violated if they disclosed the additional info about their guidance to a selected group.
