Re: "When you were in college, were there some old farts at edge of campus trying to sell copies of "Socialist Worker"?

First or second month on campus in '68, as a college freshman, I'm walking past the student union about 10 a.m. and some 30-year-old hippie (female) hands me a copy of a newspaper. Others in her group were operating the bullhorns. Big cartoon on cover of said newspaper showed two cops raping the Statue of Liberty. About 10 minutes later the dean of students with a bunch of campus cops shows up and confiscates the rest of the newspapers and starts grabbing for the bullhorns. Couple-three of the SDS (Students for a Democratic Society) members got booted out of school for peddling obscenity. Case wound its way through the courts for years. Made it all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court, which, as I recall, decided in students' favor.

Attending college from '68 to '72 was interesting, to say the least. Lots of stuff going on. In retrospect, amazing times. Some good, some not so good (Kent State).
