US vs Miller doesn't mention registration. Also it is not an authoritive source for the intentions of the framers or IMO what the constitution says.

Correct, it doesn't mention the word "registration", but what it does do is establish which arms are second amendment protectected, i.e, those which have a miltary use. Noted also in the decision was the reference to the historical documents which were used to establish intent. The documents that I wold refer to are those that were acknowledged in the decision regarding a well-trained militia and the authority that the government had to ensure that each of the members were well trained and properly equipped. I don't know how that authority can be realized with out some form of registration.

Re: authority and the USSC. By the US Constitution it is the only body of government that has the authority to determine/interpret the intent of the Framers. That's how the Framers made it. Afte two terms in office, Jefferson didn't think that was too keen, but that's the way it is.

If someone wants to commit a violent act and guns are easily available then they would be less likely to use a knife then if guns are not available.

Sometimes. If you are intent on doing a drive by shooting and wiping out the opposing gang, it's more of a challenge to throw a lot of knives. Crimes of passion, shooting your favorite spouse while drunk is more difficult to pull off with a knife than a gun. I think there are quite a few accidental shootings, not very many accidental stabbings.

But your clarification makes more sense.
