sentiment is just one piece of the puzzle, but without a doubt the market bottoms when the sentiment is bearish and there is bad news, and nattering nabobs of negativity, and tops out when the news is glowing good news, however the exact level when the sentiment is getting to an extreme to cause most people to be on the wrong side is not static, and changes in different market conditions, so there is no holy grail that the market will turn at this level of rydex cash or bearish/bullish fund ratio or put/call ratio, if you read larry mcmillan, he uses the trend of the put/call moving averages and tries to find a turning point where the sentiment has reached an extreme and reversed, thru using some computer model or moving avg cross overs of put/call ratio.
