Your post reminds me of an investment I made in a pre IPO company. They were doing the same thing only they were much further ahead of their time, (they are now broke). <;)

A few months ago, I received a letter from the CEO of this company telling me that they were out of money. However, it appears that at least one of the Vialight web sites is still operating.

ViaLight designs, builds and operates fiber optic Public Local Area Networks (P-LAN) around the world. Together with our partners, we form ViaLight Operating Companies to serve every residence and business within our partners’ respective service regions. We aggregate 100% of the residential and business populace by connecting every home and business directly to our Gigabit Ethernet P-LAN.

Founded in 1988 as Digital Network Architects, Inc., ViaLight, Inc. initially provided communications technology-consulting, engineering, and project management services. In 1996, a large Seattle area land developer asked ViaLight to provide fiber network services for their Issaquah Highlands master plan community located in Issaquah, Washington.
In 1998, the developer signed an easement agreement granting ViaLight the right-of-way and easements necessary to construct a fiber-to-the-home/business (FTTHB) ViaLight Network at Issaquah Highlands.

In 1999, ViaLight formed a wholly owned ViaLight Operating Company (VOC) to build and operate a ViaLight Network at Issaquah Highlands. The VOC completed the first construction phase of the FTTHB infrastructure and started offering network services and customer support in April 1999.

In August 2000 the VOC implemented the ViaLight Business Operation Support Systems (BOSS) software platform, Operation Support Systems (OSS) software platform, Self-Provisioning Internet Protocol (IP) Service (SIPS) software platform, and ViaLight Instant Access (VIA) user interface portal for members and providers. The VOC is successfully using the ViaLight Service Agency platform to generate recurring revenue.

The interest and attention from the developer community and energy utility companies seeking to enter the FTTHB market gives ViaLight a significant global expansion opportunity. Our partners want to use the ViaLight software platform, business processes and FTTHB infrastructure specifications to replicate VOCs into their franchise territories.
