Joe, Re: There is some pipeline, even for companies like Dell, and it is longer for Compaq and HP, so the shipments down 2% is not necessarily inconsistent with CPU sales increase during the same time period.

Thanks for the explanation. That makes sense. And since Q4 has usually even more sales than Q3 because of the Christmas shopping season, we can expect the same effect at the end of Q3.
