Re: As long as Intel can average $200 for PIV - Intel wins.

Yeah, but they've been forced to cut the list price of P4 1.5 to $133 to get the things to sell in any kind of volume.

Intel's ASP on the P4s it is shipping to Dell is probably flirting with $100 after you factor in terms and co-op. At that point, the fact that it takes $60 to FAB, test, and package one vs. $35 to FAB, test, and package a PIII or Athlon is a factor (though not an overwhelming one, I'd agree).

Meanwhile AMD is moderating any decline in its ASPs by blending in increasing sales of slightly higher priced mobile chips - which is killing overall ASPs in mobile chips, Intel's last remaining golden goose.

Server sales are way down regardless of what AMD does or doesn't do to Intel's server ASPs.

Kash: AMD desperately needs higher Mhz parts.

Not exactly. They just need to communicate IPC parity to the layman. I guess I've come around to the PR rating as a feasible strategy, tho I detest it in principle. I simply can't think of a more effective way to present performance to the general public.

AMD desperately needs 0.13 to come sooner than later to reduce costs and increase Mhz.

They should be alright provided they don't slip anymore. A 1.5 GHz pally will be competitive with the 2.0 GHz P4.
