I finally understand the definition of neo-conservatism: a Roosevelt Democrat.

What right is trampled on to make me pass through a metal detector?

If you must ask, then you are blind.

And, if taxation is fair, what right is being violated, to not pull your weight?

Taxation of individual wealth is not "fair." It violates a free individual's right to keep the wealth they created. Therefore, you advocate the trashing of that right since you choose not to recognize it, although that right had been recognized for 138 years.

And if it is reasonable to forbid commerce in certain addictive substances, except for medical necessity, than what right is being trashed?

It is not reasonable. It was something done by groups of vocal teetotallers who were in the minority and funded by certain religious pressure groups. They were able to outlaw cocaine, marijuana and alcohol. The vast amount of the public ignored the laws, despite Elliot Ness and his Untouchables, and the Mafia made a killing.

The laws against the other substances were rarely enforced until the 1960s and 1970s, when the government began its now infamous campaign of trying to eradicate their use entirely. This eventually became their "War on Drugs" - which are only a few, selective drugs, mind you. [And like the Mafia in the 20s and 30s, the Columbians, Asians in the 'Golden Triangle' and Mexicans are making a killing.] To this "war" there are many in Washington who would like to add tobacco.

If we had a truly free society and individuals had true freedom, then there would be no laws outlawing marijuana, cocaine, alcohol, etc. Those laws could not exist because it would be recognized that it violates the rights of an individual. Neither would there have been attempts to outlaw the imbibing of Coca-Cola, nor the crusade now to move towards making the use of tobacco products a crime.

All these things have happened, or are happening under your very eyes, yet you are blind to them.
