David Re..Today they are far and away the most powerful military in the region (Iran has more personnel, but not as well trained or outfitted). <<<<< I don't know about you, but in a shooting war, I would put my money on Israel. Ted brings up a good point. Iraq may have been the 4th biggest standing army, (which is how many people consider the size of an army.)but I wouldn't have put Iraq in 4 th place. China, US, Russia,England,Israel, Germany, France, could easily beat Iraq. Iran would have beaten Iraq if not for US. help. The main problem for Iraq is that fighting in the desert, gives a premium to your air force, because you can be found. . The weapons are so powerful nowadays, that men in the desert without modern arms are just cannon fodder. And Israel has the best airplanes along with the best pilots in the area.
