What that accomplished was to make a very nice little house for them inside my walls.

Oops. That's exactly what happened with my starlings. I went into a frenzy with cardboard and duct tape and the result was that they'll never get into the bedroom but they're still happily nesting in the ceiling over the shower vent. Of course, the only time I remember the problem is when they're nesting, and then I won't do anything about it.

Every year for three years, I've had workmen of different varieties climb up ladders to deal with the problem (block access; remove empty bird's nest), and every year I feel a great sense of relief that they've solved the problem.

Then spring comes and I realize that the evil starling couple is once again happily and, apparently without any encumbrance, building their little nest above my shower.

It's now summer and I've got to go through my annual ritual of finding a workman who claims he can solve the problem. Sigh!
