Jim, Yeah MHz is almost dead now. Even higher Gigahertz hasn't(won't) helped in terms of ASP.

>>Great...that means we will be able to buy 1.8 P4s for the same price as the 1.3 Ghz version...
Obviously, Mhz means nothing in terms of ASP...<<

I guess you've seen the anticipated price drops for Aug26th and then the next one for Sept. Brutal , just brutal. I couldn't believe the new pricing. Same prices indeed.
I felt sick looking at the table.

The back to school sales aren't going to materialize this quarter. Not even with these price drops. ARGHHH!

With a launch on Aug25th for Windows XP back to school sales could have been great. With XP launching on Oct25th, no one in their right mind is gonna buy a PC in Sept and load in programs and then do the whole thing again in Oct after receiving the upgrade coupon. Who wants to go thru the product activation aggravation? It's much easier to get XP activated at the factory.

Sales'll suck bigtime til Oct 25th then jump up a lot when XP hits the shelves.

Then we'll all have to wait to see how much the X-Box hype works. If the hype is as successful as I think it will be then many PC sales will be lost to those who want an X-Box instead of a PC. Since there'll be a shortage of X-Box units for Christmas, many folks will hold off on buying their Christmas presents until the post Christmas sales hit.

Early January will give a better idea than Christmas as to how sales will be for the 1st 6 months of 2002. Let's hope Santa's good to us all.
