Josh, your insight into collaborative efforts is right on. My fondest memory of this is several years back. I was supervising an engineering student expanding the scope software for a system I'd designed. We had a review of his proposal on features to implement into the software. After reading and hearing his proposal I explained that it seemed far more complex than needed, complexity adds risk. He argued for his ideas. We exchanged arguments for over an hour. He finally said to me, you are right and your simpler way is much better.

Then I had to explain to him why he was going todo exactly what he had proposed originally and the flaws in my simpler plan.

I not sure I convinced him he was right, but I was the boss and we did it his way.

I think the saying should read: "Liars are always dangerous."
