<<The Bush Administration is status quo all the way. >>

Guess as you don't watch much TV you missed the often reported Bush quote that "The market should govern the value of the dollar not a policy of intervention". I agree, though, he dares not come out and state he wishes the dollar to soften.

Agreed, ABX got a great deal. Barrick will buy the shares Homestake issued around $9.50 to buy Argentina Gold almost two years later for about $8, and get twice as much gold resources. In retrospect, losing the bid for Argentina Gold was the best thing that could have happened to ABX. Homestake is effectively selling Veladero to ABX for less than they paid for it.

Valid point. They mine more gold than Barrick, generate less than half the cash flow, no earnings, and have lots of debt. It is volatile, which make it good for trading (long and short)

<<<I shorted NEM on Friday above $20, as was my goal. I think NEM is the Dot Com of Gold stocks. I've studied NEM's balance sheet and IMHO it is poised to fall big time over the coming years.

i'd be curious to see how this trade works out but i think it is way too early and the price of nem is way to low to short it now. i used to know a bloke who worked for nortel till about '97. he talked about over capacity in the industry and couldn't see what the fuss about nortel was about. he eventually was right but it went up 4-5 times from that point before it crumbled. the dot com stocks didn't trade based on the facts and nem won't either.
