"in the New York area, most people subscribe to the Daily News,"

It's true the Times is expensive, but if you want all the details, and often more detail than you want, you read the Times. If you want news from around the world and not just the hot topics dealt with in tabloid form by the Daily News and the NY Post, you read the Times.... If you want salacious details of scandals don't look in the Times. Now come on, you know the difference between Times readers and the tabloids and it isn't because they are affluent. It's because the Times prints "all the news that's fit to print" from around the world that makes it the best paper in the world...bar none.
