I'm wondering if the current business environment allows any company to be rational. It seems every business, everywhere has to always bet the whole farm everyday. Isn't unbelievable that Lucent, with its 140 year history has to take risks that can drive it to bankruptcy ? And it did that to compete with newly formed companies that are just burning their VC funding. Bankrupting both themselves and their established competitors.
