Agree w/ you completely. This is the rub: instead of displaying any compassion or a degree of sensitivity towards the parents, his focus is on self preservation and defensive posturing. Granted, he did initially have something to hide (the affair) but once the cat was out of the bag, he should have personally ponied up, apologized for the untruths and then offered to be of any assistance possible in the investigation. The fact that he did not do this, and instead chose to have some mealy-mouthed attorney deliver a load of defensive, legalistic claptrap on his behalf only serves to further undermine his public personna. And suggests that perhaps he does have something to hide after all.
