Hi Jane,

I'm not ignoring you -- just got back from the lake. My girls are real water babies, and spent countless hours floating around on air mattresses. The six-year old is a real dare-devil. Had her out on the jet ski, and the bigger the wave or the sharper the turn, the louder she whooped and laughed behind me. She loves tubing, as well. Unfortunately her older sister was completely put off the boat by some mechanical problems we had last year. We coaxed her out once, but she was clearly unhappy.

Before we left last night, my 8 year-old and I spent about 3 hours working on a sand castle. Not that it was any particular architectural marvel when we were done -- the really time consuming part was compensating for the poor suitability of the sand by bringing water from the lake to get it the right consistency. But it was a treat to spend that kind of time together working on a project.

On Friday I took my 3 year-old boy to that beach. He wasn't as interested in building as destroying. Every time I'd get a turret out of the bucket, he'd get this gleam in his eye. I'd pretend to be attached to the 'castle', and try to defend it, but he'd get through every time and destroy whatever was there. We had lots of good giggles.

Aren't freezies great? There was a promotion on here last summer, where you could get a box ridiculously cheaply when you filled your car with gas. The promotion didn't seem that popular, so they were happy to sell more than the advertised one box. Toward the end, as they got desperate to get rid of the things, I bought about 4 cases. We have consequently supplied countless neighbourhood kids with their freezie fix.

Glad you're having a good summer.

Regards,

David
