Jay, I've started wading through your namesake's Dec1998 study of Japan etc. I like physicists as economists - they are used to causal relationships. They are also pretty smart.

Re PayPal, here are the investors in it...http://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=p/gen/investors-outside

I really am amazed that I was so unaware of what was going on in email payments, having been ranting about it for years. It's growing very fast. The new money! Once it has lifted off the ground into cyberspace, it won't touch the ground again, but will circle the world, encrypted, out of sight, though perhaps not out of mind, of the tax people.

Gold is for Aztecs. PayPal is 21st century money. The 3D-based financial system can implode and cyberspace will blithely proceed with no more care than we have when a species of nematode worms goes extinct. [Which is, I acknowledge, irrelevant to the topic of this thread which is the financial crash THIS YEAR].
