That prediction of Yardeni's will turn out to be every bit as accurate as his prediction about Y2K bug-related chaos and its attendant expenses. Yardeni is a nice, earnest man, but he is incapable of accurately assessing significant trends.

On a different point, please note that what I was referring to as nonsense was the generally accepted view that equity prices would increase 11% per year even without considering the effect of baby boomers' net redemption of equities. I happen to think that the Baby Boomer effect will be significant; I recognize that others don't.

Finally, I don't know what popular legislation you were referring to that would spread the costs and improve the services of old-age care. I can't imagine that a 40% increase in Social Security and Medicare withholding would be popular...at least not with those footing the bill. But you're right: it would certainly be popular with me when I retire soon!
