Robert O,...prices, unfortunately, are NOT coming down but going up. AT&T @HOME just went from $40 to $45/mo. The free 6 month trial is now a half off for 3 months. I guess they've figured out that those who are going to want cable modems will pay a little more and those who do not want them won't pay at all.

It's time the US companies got a little bit of the competitive spirit.

My long distance carrier has bundled in my high speed ADSL at a rate of 19.95 Cdn which is about $13.50US/month. This is less expensive than I can get dialup service unless I pay for a year in advance.

I see no reason why the US companies with their greater economy of scale couldn't just decide to bite the bullet and make high speed access ubiquitous.

Besides we need something to suck up all the surplus chips so that equipment will again be sold. ;-)

You may not have to anti up to get a faster connection. A new modem standard v.92 is coming. See the article from Interactive Week:There's Still Life In Dial-Up
