RE:"Well..why do we keep seeing the AMD AthWiper disaster stories?"

Most DIYers are building AMD systems by a long shot.
Most of them are overclockers or trying to run high performance video cards...cheap RAM etc...
Often their "disaster" is an easy fix. I've seen it many a time. Some kid posts: "My AMD system freezes"...Then after a few exchanges you find out they dude either didn't install the 4 in 1s or he has a unapproved or bum PS etc.
Then all of a sudden with a little coaching he gets the thing running and thinks AMD is the best thing since sliced bread. All along it didn't have anything to do with the AMD chip.
When you buy a premade box the vendor/screwdriverbuddy engineers all the bugs out of it before you get it.
Most all Intel based computers are sold this way.

RE:"By the way - VIA has issued about 35 updates to their 4-in 1 drivers - what makes you think they have solved all the problems?"

the 4.32s are very, very stable. This does not excuse VIA and AMD...in my mind. The sooner AMD gets more control of Athlon chipsets and others like SIS and nvidia get theirs out there, THE BETTER!
Via is ...well i won't say it. AMD was stupid for relying on VIA...that's been said here many times...

The biggest hurdle for AMD is really the MHZ gap...you know the rest of the law...
Hard to gain share and save ASP when you are trailing in the MHz game...
Part of the Mhz sells law...
