9:09AM Book-To-Bill : Salomon Smith Barney previews this evening's semiconductor equipment book-to-bill report for June. Firm expects front-end bookings to be in the range of $610-$630 mln, up from $604 mln in May. Projects book-to-bill ratio of 0.48-0.51 from May level of 0.47.

9:02AM Gapping Up/Down : TMWD +14.5% (Bear Stearns upgrade)... VERT +13% (Newell Rubbermaid news)... CHKP +9% (tops consensus by a penny)... EXTR +6.4% (UBS upgrade)... ROXI +6.3% (raises outlook for Q1).. CSCO +4.8% (UBS upgrade)... BEAS +4.5% (Intel alliance)... ANAD -13.5% (misses qtr, guides down).

SOX now near the lows for today at 563. Prediction from me is that we hit 540 again today. NASDAQ is testing 2000 again. I don't expect it will hold. Technology stocks cannot move higher without strength in the semi's.
