The problem I have with gold, is that the US govenment will not buy it from you. That fact that you have to deal with a (coin dealer) or one that deals in gold makes me less interested in this metal as a hedge.

Ever since the US government has stopped buying gold it has lost its luster.

Gold shares are the way to play but even they are suspect as a hedge IMO.

Will be real interesting to see how gold performs in the upcoming meltdown. This could then show if gold is not longer considered the commodity hedge that it once held.

We shall see. But as a metal its use is not a great as other precious metals or stones.
