Hynix Semiconductor to Suspend Output at U.S. Plant for 6 Months
July 23, 2001 (SEOUL) -- Hynix Semiconductor Inc. said it would cut output at its overseas production facility.

The company, which operates chip-manufacturing facilities in Oregon, said it would suspend production for the next six months, which is equivalent to 15 percent of all DRAM production and 50 percent of 64Mb DRAMs.

Other major chipmakers have also decided to cut production due to the faltering world semiconductor market.

"The production cut will enhance our cash flow and we will be able to reduce operation losses and expand profits," said a Hynix official. He added that the company does not plan to cut output at its other plants.
