Re: What situation would lead to AMD producing 50% more high-end processors than their low-end processors?

At an ASP of $75, I wouldn't call them "high end".

:-(

But - they'll do.

>"If AMD pumps out 6 million morgans from Austin and 9 million Athlon MPs and Athlon 4s from Dresden in each of the first few quarters of next year at $75 ASPs"<

Interesting statement, a few is at least three, and possibly more, so a few quarters would cover most or all of the year.

>What situation would lead to AMD producing 50% more high-end processors than their low-end processors? Where is the market for 9M Athlons when AMD sold 7.7M TOTAL processors while stuffing the channel in Q2?<

Well, if he stated 9 million Athlons, it might almost make sense. With a shrink to 0.13-microns at Dresden, while Austin remains at 0.18-micron it is reasonable to anticipate that Dresden might produce up to 50% more processors than Austin. And, keeping in mind that Tualatin may be moving into the value sector in Q2 2002, AMD may be selling a lot of Athlons in the value sector as early as Q2 2002. This would become even more pronounced as the introduction of Clawhammer drives Athlon entirely into the value sector. At the rate things are going, it seems likely that the high end desktop Barton will be introduced at less than $120, and possibly less than $100.
