Good morning, Official Court Poet,

I am up early and sharpening my sceptre, looking for more edicts to declare. As long as no one argues with me, I'm fine. If someone says they don't like an edict, I will probably cry and change it.

Pigs in Heaven was written by Barbara Kingsolver. Have you read The Bean Trees? Read it first. I still haven't read The Poisonwood Bible by her. It's on the stack.

I have a dear friend who's an assistant editor for a literary magazine and she says she can't read books that have children in pain. Doens't like Kingsolver or Jane Smiley (also on my stack but haven't read any). Her current favorites are Elizabeth Berg (probably my favorite woman writer) and Sue Miller, (though not the Good Mother for the kids in pain reason). I find Kingsolver poetic and uplifting, not at all depressing, and I love her characters.
Do you like Margaret Atwood?
As you can see, I am very big into modern women writers, so our sauna here is very healthy for me. I NEED to remember that there are men writers in the world :)
I feel sure James Dickey will be a sharp reminder of the this.
