The idea that drinking is sinful is wrong headed

keys---excess, consequence,

Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is. Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery.

You are all sons of the light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be alert and self-controlled. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night.

Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that continue until night, till wine inflame them!

Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

I don't believe American Protestants wrote these. You might want to check though...........................

Also you might want to check with MADD, I am sure they will set you straight about the ""civilized"" killing going on on our highways.

Chuck,

A common error about calling drinking a sin, is that the actual sin is over indulgence, which can cover a multitude of actions, or habits. To drink to excess, is to over indulge, ergo, to sin. Gluttony is over indulgence in eating food, which is just as sinful as drinking too much, but as you, and I, both know, those that drink too much can make themselves a hazard to other members of society.

I have said much the same thing about alcoholism, as you have just posted, many times. No matter what a person's situation may be, no one forces that first drink down his throat. It is a conscious decision made by the individual. IMO, to call it a disease is a "cop out" and a way for doctors to charge insurance companies for treatment, when they do not give the best treatment in the first place.
